How to Dress
When deciding your wardrobe for Hawai‘I, plan on packing clothes that suit your lifestyle and travel plans. Start with clothes that are light, loose and comfortable.
Daytime
• Shorts, sandals or some good walking shoes
• Short sleeve shirts or tops
• Wide brimmed hat and sunglasses
• Swim trunks or swimsuit for the beach
Evenings
• Casual pants and shirts for both men and women
• Dresses or skirts and tops for women
• Sport coat (usually not required, but appropriate if you want to wear to Hawaii’s finest restaurants)
• Light jacket or sweater
Special situations
You may need warm clothes if your trip will take you to places of higher elevation, including visits to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park on the Hawai’i Island, Haleakalā National Park on Maui and other upcountry areas. Even while traveling in Hawai’i, it is smart to consider bringing any or all of the following so you can comfortably partake in various outdoor activities:
• Light coat or windbreaker
• Sweater or sweatshirt
• Long pants
• Hiking shoes
