OCEAN WATER SAFETY TIPS
Hawaii’s ocean is beautiful, but it can also be dangerous. Here are
some tips to help you in Hawaiian waters:
• Strong, hidden currents can easily overpower the most experienced
swimmer.
• Standing on rock outcroppings can be dangerous because of the risk
of a sudden, powerful wave.
• Swim only in areas where lifeguards are on duty. Always check conditions
with a lifeguard before venturing into the water.
• If you are unfamiliar with rapidly changing conditions which are common
to ocean beaches, it is not recommended that you swim in areas where lifeguards
are not present.
• Pay attention to warning signs, if any, posted on the beach.
